I found clay during my foundation year in Swindon where I learned to throw, and subsequently began a Fine Arts Ceramics degree at Cardiff. Plans changed; I left college and have since enjoyed a career in retail and distribution.
Although I would not touch clay for more than 40 years, my interest in, and love of ceramic as an expressive medium stayed with me, and so I enrolled on a six -week beginners course, and rediscovered my joy of making.
Now with a membership at a Northamptonshire community studio, I make individual hand -thrown forms, working in stoneware and porcelain and indirectly drawing on observations and experiences of nature; I enjoy the tactile nature of clay during the making process, and through form and texture, aim to reflect the simple honesty of the materials in the finished pieces. I take inspiration from the 20th century craftsmen potters such as Leach, Cardew and Batterham.
Living in Northampton with my wife and two cats, I continue to enjoy my other lifelong passion as an active player with local Brass Bands.
